Surrounded by the bluest waters of the Mediterranean, Sardinia's interior is a magnificent rugged landscape with remnants of its ancient nuraghic culture, a smattering of Roman ruins and traces of Spanish Baroque-influenced architecture. While still Italian, Sardinia is distinct with its own cuisine, culture and history. With The Travel Club president, Tim Montgomery, explore the lively port of Cagliari, on Sardinia's southern tip—with broad avenues, arched arcades and an ancient hilltop citadel. We'll enjoy a city tour and excursions to St. Antioco Island and Nora, areas of great historic and archaeological interest. Seaside Alghero—a beautiful medieval city with busy seafood restaurants, shady cobbled lanes, Gothic palazzi and café-lined piazzas where watching a sunset, accompanied by a cocktail, is a must—hosts us for the next three nights. Explore the coastal town of Castelsardo with its old town perched on a hill beside the sea; visit Bosa with a rainbow of pastel-colored houses, moored fishing boats and palm trees lining an elegant riverfront; and get a taste of Sardinian cuisine and wine during an agriturismo lunch.
